The Skeleton and the Masterpiece

There is a creative process behind every masterpiece we produce. We really get into some mummy business: starting with the skeleton. We use this body template to map out design silhouettes and design critical points. We basically create the dress before we even go anywhere near the fabric. For this design we went for a figure hugging silhouette with a statement flower design. On the left of our sketch we usually break down the design into the pattern pieces, that way we know what materials well need and how much of it. On the right hand side of the template we usually write down all the body measurement we need.
Templates are critical, they help us with decision making, in regards to know to finish the dress and if the dress will need extra support, like binding or straps. You can see in the video that we decide how to get into the dress right from skeleton, by marking our zip placement.
Even with a template and a design sketch nothing can truly prepare you for the masterpiece.
